Hi David, Replacing your DVD drive should not really cause you any problems as long as you are careful about matching the drive type physicallyand also the interface type. Those of you who are discouraged with the UJS – do a controlled test. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all! Your existing drive will have some form of caddy fastened to it which will need to be removed and re-attached to the new drive.
Many of the posts I have encountered on various technical bulletin sites mentioned problems with the UJS and the Roxio Creator 5 CD program and I think this is where the problem lies. My conclusion is that it is both a drive problem and a disc creation ju by a different computer.

Apparently, this optical drive, made OEM by Matshita, and used commonly in Toshiba laptops, has no Firmware upgrades available; the drive cover says FW: On my A30 the caddy comprised of an outer plastic shell which was fastened with four screws, and a metal strip attached to the back of the drive by two screws which is used to anchor the assembly to the notebook.
